First post of senior year!

For the parents: a rundown of my schedule:
Monday: Class from 10-12, 2-4, and 6-7
Tuesday: Class from 11-1, 2-3, 3-5
Wednesday: 10-12, 2-4
Thursday: 11-1, 2-3
Friday: 2-3

No work schedule as of yet, because apparently there were a ton of applications put in at the library. I've gone in and talked with the Head of Circulation and told her that I'm very interested in the library position, but I think it comes down to how my schedule meshes with those already there. If I can work some hours the others can't or won't, then I might get the job. I don't know. Hopefully I'll be hearing from them. If not... I'll look elsewhere.

Classes are fun so far. No real complaints except that my History of the English Language prof won't let us use laptops, so hand cramps are common on Mondays and Wednesdays. That interesting part of class makes up for it, though.

My friends are awesome, and I'm terribly sad that I'm not going to be here next year for them.

I'm still doing research into grad school. I'm also looking into taking a semester off to get my bearings and possibly money. I can fill out the FAFSA for grad school, but my advisor says that a really good school will waive tuition for you to attend. I think he was talking about history as a study focus, though, not library sciences. Hmm.

I've also become enthralled with the archives. I'm doing a lot of research in the archives here at school. I've been talking to the woman in charge of the archives and she says she thinks a history background would be more helpful than a library sciences background if I wanted to go into archival work. But I still want to get my MLIS (Master of Library and Information Sciences) or whatever acronym the schools are using, because then I could find a job basically anywhere I wanted. Katie said Australia needs librarians. Wouldn't that be awesome?

I am contemplating doing library sciences as a major/graduate school thing. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a very popular major/program any more, which is annoying.

So I was wondering where you went, and whether it was a graduate or certificate program, or another bachelor degree...?

Any help would be appreciated.

It's a miracle!

Okay. So, we've got five days left. I have a test tonight and a paper to write (stupid rhyme).

Last night Cait and I had a marathan night of Cowboy Bebop, and we dyed Deth and Kim's hair. Deth dyed her hair purple, and Kim dyed her really-dark-brown hair a red, so it came out nicely mahagony. And actually, Deth's hair looks remarkably like purple heart, so there you go. Our friends (except Kim and Jason) are trickling out of here over this next week, so this was possibly our last chance to hang out with them. Jason and Kim are staying here for the summer and are feeling a bit abandoned because everyone is going home. But Cait is the lcosest so she'll probably see them at some point this summer. And if I/we can get to Hiawatha this year we can see them then as well.

Cait and I are planning to go pay for our storage place this afternoon after we're both off work so we have someplace to keep our stuff. My final isn't until 6, so we've got plenty of time.

Um...yeah. Not much else to tell, really. Nice weather, but not really nice. It's in the mid-50s here, and it looks like it might storm.

So, I have three things left to do for school. Well, five if you count the tests. I have to do re-writes on the long-short story and the short-short story for creative writing. And then I have the 12-15 page paper in Scandinavian History, which is not due until the absolute last day possible, May 5. I hope to have it done before then, of course.

I wanted to let you guys know that I'm dyeing my hair. I'm not dyeing it purple, it's still a natural hair color. It's just a little darker and a little redder than my own hair color. But just thought I'd let you know so I didn't shock you when I came home, though it'll probably be a little faded by then...

We watched an entirely odd Icelandic movie in Modern Scandinavian History last Wednesday, and discussed it yesterday in class. At one point in the movie, the main characters were having an excruciatingly boring Christmas dinner with the relatives, and the main character has a vivid fantasy about breaking out a shotgun and blowing all his boring relatives away.

This and the discussion about it made me realize how lucky I am. The professor said something along the lines of, "Who hasn't thought something similar when your great-uncle starts talking about his surgery for the fifteenth time?" I was terribly confused, and looked around the room to see almost everyone nodding fervently. And I was thinking, "Wow, I knew my family wasn't normal, but not-normal like this I'll definitely take."

Because I'm almost never bored with family. We don't have boring discussions when we all get together. There's music and laughter and jokes and stories and fun and love, and I love you guys for it. I'm so glad that I have such a wonderful family who tell wonderful stories and are never boring, especially en masse. All together we are a fascinating bunch, and I love us.

Well, we're getting down to it. About three weeks left of classes and then finals week.

The last day of finals week is May 5, and Cait and I will probably be putting The Stuff in storage Saturday. But don't quote me on it, since nothing is ever definite until we do it.

I'm feeling pretty good about school. I don't think my GPA will be quite as high as it was last semester, but I'm pretty sure it's still around 3.5.

Other than that, I really don't have much at all to report. I'm alive and well and still (relatively) sane.

Right. So, I signed up for classes for the Fall. I'm taking 17 credits. I'm also in two classes with Cait.

My schedule for the Fall as it stands right now:

Monday: Historical Thinking and Writing 10-11:40; The English Language 2-3:40; Intro to Professional Writing (with Cait) 6-6:50
Tuesday: Methods of Social Research 11-12:50 (with Cait); Psychology w/lab: 2-2:50; Psychology Lab 3-4:50
Wednesday: Historical Thinking and Writing 10-11:40; The English Language 2-3:40
Thursday: Methods of Social Research 11-12:50 (with Cait); Psychology w/lab: 2-2:50
Friday: Psychology w/lab: 2-2:50

This semester ends on May 5, which is the final final day (haha). So I'll be home soon after that. The deal with the apartment this summer is that if we want to rent it, it's $25/week, which breaks down to $400 each. I wish we could split the cost, but the university has to milk all the money they can out of us. Also speaking of money, taxes need to be done so I can fill out the FAFSA. I also need to ask Lauren if there's any way we can include the unforseen and ungodly expense of hospital bills and maybe get a bit of break from that. ...That sounds so mercenary.... I guess the ship has sailed about me filing taxes as well, huh?

Next semester starts on August 28. I think the move-in date is the Thursday before that, which means it's the 24. Hiawatha weekend is July 21-23 or thereabouts. I'm thinking it's really likely I won't be able to make it this year...but we'll see how it pans out. My friends and I are also making some vague plans to come up a weekend early and go to the Ren Faire in Bristol near where my friend Deth(Beth) lives. It's really only a vague, "That would be really cool," thing, but I'd love to see it happen. But then, I'd also like to go and join Erin in Europe for a while, but I pretty much know that's not gonna happen. The Ren Faire at least has a chance.

So, it looks like, if I take maybe a couple classes at Front Range this summer, I can graduate with Caitlin in Spring of 2007. I have to double-check again when I'm not quite so worried about papers I have to write, but it looks like it should work out. And if I can get a couple classes taken care of at FRCC, it would definitely lower costs, which is a very good thing.

Nice excuse for the Willaims clan at large to descend upon the UP, eh? (Yeah, sorry, it was there, I had to go for it...)

I'm doing well. A little freaked about the 12-15 page paper for Modern Scandinavian history that the prof. forgot to mention until Wednesday, but I'll pull through. Rest of my classes are going great. We had a snow day on one of the film days, so I got to avoid watching Psycho, which I consider a good thing, anyway...

Things are good here. It's almost maybe Spring-ish out there, yay!

Spring Break was fun. Went to a concert on Friday night at 8th Street in Escanaba. Amazing guitarist.

Yup. We're heading out tonight to hang with the family in Escanaba. So if you need to reach me call on Cait's cell, most likely...or Kathryn's, because I think I'm going to Manistique with her tomorrow...Don't know for sure though.

Spring break so far has been pretty relaxing. I actually ended up with ten hours because work ran long the last two days, so at least that's a bit more money.

Basic Floorplan, though with ours it's...different... Basically, this is an up-and-down mirror image of our apartment. The door is at the bottom of the plan, etc...

Our dining area (the door is just to the left there) and this is behind the couch in the living room...which I don't have a picture of because that's where I usually sit...

Our baking shelf, which we got for half off at Target and is perfect for our kitchen. It's opposite the sink area (lots of room for a pathway still, too)

One third of our living room: that's the entertainment center, which was one of the dressers that came with the apartment. Cait had a dresser already, so we decided to use this one as our fun place. It holds all our movies, games, etc. The window looks out onto the sidewalk and parking lot beyond...not the best view, but we get good sunlight for most of the day.

The second third of our living room. This wall is the one that's on the other side of Cait's room (which I have no pictures of) and is at a 90-degree angle from the couch. And that's our friend Deth (Beth, really, but there's two of them, so one is Deth and the other is Bug) in the papasan...

...I don't know why some of the pictures are so much smaller than the others...computers are being weird.

I can't believe how time flies...

Anyway, it's March in the UP. We got snow and ice and biting wind. But a couple days ago we also had an incredibly nice day. Thankfully that was one of the days I walk across campus to pick up checks. Lucked out.

I keep leaving my scarf places. I don't know why... I've left it in the office a couple times and had to come back for it, I've dropped it in one of the skyways, and I've even left it at home a couple times. For something that long it's really easy to lose track of.

So, right now the plan for spring break is to work Monday-Wednesday, and after work Wed. head down to Escanaba. Didn't get nearly as many hours as I'd hoped (I'm getting 9 total for next week...when a usual week is 12), so at least I'll get the couple books I have to finish read. Or maybe even -- gasp! -- write something. Yeah, hold your breath waiting for that to happen...

Hope everyone's okay, and I love you all and wish I could come home.

I'll post some pictures when I get home...and after I clean up a bit...

How's everyone doing? I'm having a great time up here. Last night was anime night and everyone talked more than watched, but that's per usual...

Watched an entirely depressing film in Scandinavian History, and it's not over yet...Then I get to write a two-pager about the historical significance of the movie and what it was about. Bleh.

Anyway, it's snowing, and the weather reports are calling for a pretty hefty winter storm, so Cait is doubting she'll make it down to Escanaba this weekend.

My registration still hasn't come, but I don't think the mail has been delivered today, so if it has I'll let you know...

Um...I'm trying to think of anything interesting to say, but I really can't...

Oh yeah! Spring Break is next week. I think I'm working, since the girl I share my job with is going on vacation. I wish I could come home, but it's not practical to drive for two days, stay for two or three and then drive right back. And we can't afford to fly. But I'm slowly remembering to ask my teachers about taking time off at the end of march, and if I went with 'Ski, then they could just drop me off at home while they go on to Texas. Or something...I don't know yet.

I'm on a Nickel Creek kick. I love them.

I've been terribly lax in updating, I know, I'm sorry!

Let's see...

The Apartment: is awesome. We are essentially moved in now, with the last-ish load of furniture from Escanaba having come up last weekend. Cait's bookshelves are in her room now, and I got a desk, chair and plastic mat for my room, and a side table. They're spiffy, but I haven't actually done anything with them yet. We also got a nice table for the living room, so I can stop using my purple crates as tables... I know I keep saying I'll send pictures, and I will...just not right now. I'll try and get them re-sized tomorrow to post.

Cait and I seem to have worked out a system that works well. She does a lot of the cooking and I do the dishes. And we're actually cooking. Well, we're mostly cooking. Cait usually takes one of the Thai boxes Uncle Kip told us about or some Pasta Roni stuff, put in veggies and meat and cook it all up. When she does that I usually chop up more veggies for a salad. And we're making our own bread. I think we've only lost four or five foodstuffs to lack of use, so we're actually shopping pretty smart, as well.

Social Life: One of the reasons I haven't been posting as much is that I suddenly find myself with a social group. Cait works with this guy Jason, and she invited him to the first anime night, because they have a lot in common including anime. So a month ago (I think), we had him and his fiance Kim over, and Beth (also called Deth) and Ryan from Breakwater, and another Beth. That first night we all had so much fun that we decided to do another night of fun on Saturdays. And we have. And we all hang out a lot.

The day daddy had his heart attack the weather was really bad, and Jason had a late class. By the time he was out of class and they were ready to go home, the roads were terrible, so he and Kim asked to crash here. We, of course, said sure, and we all sat around talking for hours (not too late, I promise). Then while Cait went to Escanaba for the weekend, everyone went to see Wallace and Grommit at campus cinema on Saturday night (this was two weekends ago...), and then we came back to the apartment and hung out and watched Fight Club (WEIRD movie...). We were going to watch something else, too, but got sidetracked with conversations...

Last weekend Jason and Kim came over on Friday night, ostensibly to borrow a couple boxes because they just moved to a new apartment, but they ended up hanging out for several hours. Saturday, Jason brought over this weird anime movie Akira and we all watched. Beth's girlfriend Becky joined us, which is about time, really, because we only know Beth because Becky used to live in Breakwater last year...But Becky isn't nearly as into anime as the rest of us, so she only joined us to watch Shaun of the Dead after Akira. Shaun of the Dead is highly entertaining; very British.

This week Jason and Kim skipped anime night because of the weather, but the Beths and Ryan came over and hung out. We didn't actually end up watching anything, because nobody would stop talking long enough to make a decision of what we would watch. Last night we went over to Jason and Kim's new place and watched Boondock Saints and the first disk of an anime. But that broke up relatively early, so everyone but them (Kim was falling asleep through the show) came back and hung out talking for a few more hours before heading back to the dorms.

Tonight we're going to see RENT at Campus cinema.

School: is going great. I got an A on my film test, and I think I did pretty well on the Gay and Lesbian history test. I got okay grades on the first two papers for Scandinavian history, but I'll get better because now I have a better idea of what the prof wants. And I actually kinda liked the book we had to read. It was well-written and interesting despite being a detailed account of subarctic trench warfare. Modern history still isn't my thing, but I guess I do okay when it's well-written.

Work: is actually going pretty well, too. Still learning all the little details that make it complicated, but I'll get it down. Kim works on the third floor of the building (I work on the "first floor" but it's really the basement...and a former pool, apparently, that they paved over to make an office instead...go fig), and we'll chat during work (lots of downtime) and walk home together. Friday it was bitingly freakin' cold as all get-out, especially the wind. So, we were wimpy and walked several minutes out of our way to be indoors, took the below-ground tunnel and cut through buildings and such...it was that cold.

Misc.: There's a freakin' lot of snow up here, and lots and lots of ice on the sidewalks because as soon as it clears, it snows again, and then melts and freezes. Vicious cycle... I'll try and take some pictures of the white stuff as well, though I think that'll have to wait until Tuesday when I have a bit more breathing room in my schedule.

Something funny about the snow: Ryan was sitting in the chair next to the window, and got up to stretch after one of the movies was over. I don't know what made him peek through the blinds, but all of a sudden he, being from California, said, "Look! It's whiter than a Hitler Youth rally out there!" Everyone cracked up.

I also might be able to pick up a couple more hours at work because the other student who shares this job with me is having complications with her pregnancy and has to be off work for three weeks, maybe more. So, yeah. While I'm not happy at the misfortune of others, it works out okay for me...

Classes are going well. I took a test in my film class yesterday, and I have one in my gay and lesbian history class on Monday. I think I'm going to be fine, though.

My long-short story is getting workshopped (along with my friend Beth's) on Monday, so that's going to be interesting. We're not supposed to argue with the comments or try and defend our work, so that's going to be difficult for me and Beth, I'm sure...

Anyway...I think that's pretty much it.

I got a job!

I'm working in the Financial Services office about 14/15 hours a week. That might get upped, though, because the other student worker is pregnant and might have to work less or stop altogether. But I have money coming in! I feel good about that, and hey, one of those applications finally worked!

So the apartment is great. The furniture is pretty comfortable, and the rooms are a decent size. The bathroom is fine, a little stained, but whatever.

School is going fine, nothing really extraordinary yet. This semester is a little different, because except for the creative writing class, I'm pretty much walking into the classes blind. The film class is going to be interesting. Our teacher has an accept I can't place, but I can understand him just fine. The history of modern Scandinavia is going to be okay, but I still don't like modern history as much as I like ancient history.

Last night Cait and I had a little party. Her friend Jason from work came with his fiance Kim, and Emily, Ryan and Beth from Breakwater came. We all geeked out, had good food, talked and laughed for hours. It was a lot of fun.

So, now it's time to do homework.

Well, two finals down, one to go. And that one is the American History one, all about the Civil War. I'm pretty confident that I'll do well. I've gotten good grades on all tests in this class, so no real worries.

Cait and I are calling a storage company today to see what they've got. Beth says they have smaller storage areas, like 5X8, 8X12, smaller storage, you know? And we only need it for one month, so it shouldn't be a big expense. We've "liberated" some boxes from the marketplace (that's what they're there for, though...), so we shouldn't be lacking for storage space.

And, now for something completely different...

We got the apartment! It's a two-bedroom, carpeted, furnished, the whole nine yards! Yay!

Only downside is that it's in the "newer" complex, which sounds like an upside, but... They're out of the way, and not really convenient to any location on campus. So I'm going to be doing a lot more walking next semester, which is weird because I thought I was doing a ton of walking anyway...

But we got the apartment!

But there's a bit of a hitch: They need the room cleaned out by the Sunday I leave, which means that we have to have it cleaned out by Saturday. And I don't know where we're going to put the stuff, because we can't move into the apartment until January 12th (they have to clean the place and that's the official move-in date anyway...). We might be able to keep our stuff in the dorm room (as in, they might make an exception) but I'm not holding my breath for that. So... I might need some money for storage or something, but only for a month, or something.

So, I'll let you know more details as I learn them. But my phone number and mailing address is going to change again, but that won't be until after I go home, anyway. So. Yeah.

Hello family!

It hasn't really been exciting here, but it hasn't been really boring, either. It's just...normal.

Cait and I put our names on the list for an apartment, and we're carefully hopeful about our chances of getting one. I didn't really hate living in a dorm, but I don't think it's for me. We're hoping to get an apartment by the Learning Resource Center, which is the buidling the library is in, and it's much closer to campus than the new apartments. I would appreciate a shorter walk. Also, it's closer to the PEIF.

Week after next is finals week (I've got three), and then on the 18th I'm flying home! Yay! I can't wait to see you guys again.

Cait is dancing in the Nutcracker tonight, and Kathryn, Steve, Brian and Tony are all coming up to see it. So that's going to be fun.

I have three things left to do before studying for finals begins: finish "Life and Death in Shanghai" and "The Dragon's Village" for my China class, and write a paper for Pilates. That's it.

Hey, mom? Didn't you say there was a package or something coming to me? Or did I dream that? Because I (of course) can't remember that clearly... but if you did send something, it hasn't come yet...

Progress: I finally mailed your present, mom. I'm a ditz who kept spacing it. I'm sorry! It should get to you, but maybe not until next week with Thanksgiving in the way, and all... I do love you, even if I kept spacing it, I swear!

Okay. So, Cait and I are going to Stonington for Thanksgiving, which means you can't reach me on the dorm phone, which will, I think, have to be unplugged for the duration of the vacation....

We're trying to go to Wisconsin to visit Amanda on Saturday, but we'll have to see what the weather is doing. It's being more schizo up here than Colorado. Rain, snow, sun and wind all in one day, and that was just yesterday.

Unfortunately, that is when the passenger-side wiper on Hermes decided to go crazy on me. There's a service station people up here like in Escanaba, so I'm going to go there tomorrow. The driver's side works fine and I can still see peferctly fine, so don't worry about the drive there.

Cait and I are touring an apartment to see what's what in them. But I'm going to need $125 deposit if we're going to get on the waiting list. I hate to have my hand out like this, but could you guys help me out?

On the school front, I pretty much just have to worry about finals, and that's not worrying me too much. My group presentation in my China class went well. My presentation for my Discovery and Exploration class hasn't happened yet, but I expected it to, so it's all done and prepared and everything. I just have a couple books to read for China class, and that's a cinch.

Okay, I think that's it! In case I don't talk to you sometime this weekend, have a great thanksgiving and say hi to everyone at Cynthia's for me.

I don't do this on purpose, really...I just can't really think of anything to talk about...

Cait went home last weekend. I went to the library for the first time. So very dangerous. I got a bunch of books I need, and several that I don't.

Went on a fun shopping trip with Cait, Beth, and her suitemates to Wally World. Went "Ooooh!" at a lot of movies, but didn't buy any. Got a new pillow specifically for the papisan chair (it makes my back hurt a bit to sit in it too long, and the pillow helps). Cait and I also went grocery shopping prior to that, so we have actual food again...

Wow. I just looked at the date. I've been 21 for one month. Weird.

So, only a week until Mom's b-day, huh? And, consequently, Harry Potter. I'll call you. When are you going to the movie?

I think that's all, really. Nothing special happening. Took a couple tests, feel pretty good about them.

Sorry. Didn't mean to go this long without updating you guys.

Let's see...This past weekend was fun. Took a test in my China class on Thursday, which I got an %87 on. That's good. One of the women in the class had her two-year-old with her, and the little girl kept trying to get attention through the test. After a half-hour, the mother was practically in tears, and came up to the teacher and handed in her test, saying she couldn't finish it. So when I finished the test about ten minutes later, I told her if she wanted to go back and finish the test, she could and I would watch her kid right there in the hallway. She said, "Are you serious?" I assured her I could handle it, and she went back in and finished the test. That made me feel very good. Plus, the little girl was really cute. She was content reading books for quite a while, as long as someone was paying attention to her.

Thursday night was supposed to be a "haunted" tour of the graveyard near campus, but that apparently got canceled by the diocese (spell? Head-of-church type guy?). On Friday night, I dragged my skeptic friend Ryan along on the Haunted Marquette tour, put on by the local paranormal society. Interesting, but uneventful. I got an orb in one of my pictures, but it's probably dust.

After that, Ryan convinced Caitlin to come with us to the party in Mager's basement. I did half-hearted gypsy costume, Cait wore her Scottish Country Dancing outfit, and Ryan dressed as a security guard (because he worked as one in California). Cait hung around for about an hour then went back, and I mostly sat in one of the comfy armchairs against the walls, and watched everyone. There were a lot of really cool costumes. Ryan won second place in the costume contest, which was cool.

Didn't do much outside the room on Saturday. Sunday, I watched several episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho (I think that's how you spell it) with Beth and her friend Jenn. Then Beth and I went to see Fantastic Four, wearing our cloaks because we wanted to. It was fun. Cait was returned from Escanaba when we got back, so we all sat around and talked for a while.

Monday was...monday. Even though it was Halloween. Watched several fun shows on the Travel and History channels (one was cool about ancient Greek and Romans finding remains from Meosine and Pleistocine eras and connecting those with their myths...it was fun).

Tuesday I woke up with a cricked neck and couldn't look to the left all day. Owie.

And today has been pretty good. I've got my US history class tonight at 6.

Hello all. Nothing terribly interesting to relate, really. The Morski clan went to FARM (Folk Alliance Regional Midwest or something like that..) to perform, and Cait left on Thursday night. So I've actually spent an entire weekend in Marquette now. Go me!

I really hope Dad's not too mad at me. But there's this girl in my house who worked in a genetics lab the last two years in high school, and took AP Bio, and she's not doing too well in the class, either. The level of difficulty is way out of proportion for a 100 level course, and I wasn't up that that challenge.

Anyway...really nothing interesting to report. Just lounged around this weekend.
